Member Spotlight: Jamie Bourgeois

November 18, 2019
Welcome to CREW, Jamie Bourgeois! Jamie is Senior Vice President at Live Oak Bank where she is Head of Construction. Prior to managing the Bank’s construction team, Jamie was Head of Hotel and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Lending. She has also worked as a Lead Analyst for Moody’s Financial Services in New York City, where she rated new issuance Commercial Mortgage Backed Security Pools. We love our Live Oak CREW members!
Jamie began her career in banking and finance with Branch Banking & Trust where she held various roles in production and credit administration. She worked as a part-time teller at BB&T during college, and her branch manager at the time told her she should apply for the Management Development Program. Through the Program Jamie landed a position as a Business Development Officer selling payroll services. Jamie realized she had a desire to help small businesses, so she pursued the loan production side and took the role as a Small Business Banking Lending Officer in Boone, North Carolina. Turns out, most of her portfolio was Acquisition, Development and Construction financing of real estate projects. All told, Jamie has around 15 years banking experience and eight years of CRE finance experience.
Jamie loves banking because it allows her to help people make their dreams come true. Even though providing financing for a project can be a thrill, sometimes helping someone realize their dreams can be saying “no” and turning it into an opportunity to provide sound guidance.
This passion also fuels Jamie's long-standing love affair with real estate. She loves everything about a real estate transaction, from the beginning stages of design, to negotiating transactions, to seeing the finished product. Buildings can be iconic in such a way that it becomes a coveted prize. Or they can be basic and utilitarian, serving the most basic human need. Really, when you think about creating vibrant communities, real estate development is at the center of that movement. Imagine: a simple set of things like wood, concrete, brick and mortar can be a catalyst for change in a neighborhood. It’s just amazing!
Understanding what makes projects succeed and what makes projects fail and passing that knowledge to other like-minded real estate professionals makes CREW the perfect fit for Jamie. She can connect with like-minded women who share her passion for real estate. While she lived in Charlotte, the local CREW chapter also proved to be a great source of mentoring for Jamie.
On the personal side, Jamie and her Partner have three 4-legged fur babies, two cats and one dog. Jamie has several goals:
  • hike the PCT or Appalachian Trail
  • see a TED Talk
  • see all 4 grand slam tennis events
  • visit all of the baseball stadiums in the United States
  • be an entrepreneur -- for you deal makers out there, she wants to own a small, hip coastal hotel!
  • continue to be a confidant and an influential mentor and coach to young adults.
Jamie's inspirations include her parents, Robert Moses, John Muir, and Serena Williams, and she is driven by passions for Leadership, Behavioral Economics, Design, and almost anything related to the history of New York City.
Welcome to Cape Fear CREW, Jamie!
